Emily Bayless (b. 1988) born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, is a ceramic artist and educator based in Laredo, Texas. She has her BFA in Ceramics from Arizona State University and her MFA in Ceramics from the University of Colorado Boulder. She has worked with a wide range of clays, techniques, and firing methods, and currently focuses in low fire earthenware to create a range of utilitarian and sculptural works that utilize light, negative space, and symbolism. Her work focuses on the atmosphere of the moment to create unique spaces for ritual and connection. Having exhibited nationally in museums, galleries, and universities, she has also completed public art works, most notable a mixed media mural which is permanently installed at the Border Heritage Museum in Laredo, TX. Bayless has been the recipient of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts Challenge America Award and was an artist in residence at Watershed Center for Ceramics.
